Job Summary
Sr Surgical Technologist provides mentoring and guidance for Surgical Technologist positions, performs delegated operating room support tasks, and ensures safe, efficient patient care. Responsibilities include training/orienting others, maintaining sterile technique, preparing the operating room and instruments for procedures across multiple service lines (orthopedics, gynecology, general, ENT, ophthalmology, urology, cardiovascular, spine, neurology, oral/maxillofacial, minimally invasive), assisting the circulating RN, using hospital databases like EPIC, and participating in quality/safety initiatives. Strong communication, English proficiency, and ability to work with patients, physicians, families, and care teams are required. May serve as a preceptor and participate in department/hospital committees; on-call duties may be required. The role emphasizes independent judgment, patient-centered care, and adherence to Houston Methodist values.
Required Qualifications
- Two years as a Surgical Technologist
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Successful completion of an accredited Surgical Technology program or military training equivalency
- BLS - Basic Life Support or Instructor (AHA)
- Certification as CST (NBSTSA) or TS-C (NCCT) or CSA (NCCSA) or grandfather clause SB1239, Sec 259.002 with 30 CEUs every two years
