Job Summary
Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and emergency repairs on substation equipment to ensure operational reliability. Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical faults using specialized testing equipment, then install, calibrate, and maintain protective relays, circuit breakers, and transformers. Collaborate with engineering teams to plan upgrades while ensuring all work complies with safety regulations and industry standards. Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities and mentor junior technicians. This role supports continuous power distribution and minimizes downtime within the manufacturing sector.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent with completion of an electrical apprenticeship or technical training program
- Minimum of 5 years of experience working with high-voltage electrical equipment in substations or related environment
- Strong knowledge of electrical theory, substation equipment, and safety protocols
- A strong proficiency with reading and interpreting electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel to various job sites within the United States
Desired Qualifications
- Associate degree or higher in Electrical Engineering Technology or a related field
- Certification as a Journeyman Electrician or equivalent industry certification
- Experience with SCADA systems and digital protective relays
- Familiarity with NFPA 70E and OSHA electrical safety standards
- Proven leadership skills with experience mentoring junior technicians
- Proficiency with setting switches, doing buss work, hanging jumpers, erecting steel structures, cabinet work, etc. (in a high voltage substation)
