Job Summary
Drive vehicle-level craftsmanship by establishing excellence criteria through benchmarking and early attribute research on Gap + Flush, Firmness + Feel, and surface quality. Define objective specifications for Studio, Engineering, and Supplier teams regarding visible part interfaces, haptics, and paint. Lead interface maturation by driving proven characteristics into program master sections and verifying conformance. Validate data for craftsmanship excellence, triage issues on physical prototypes, and manage detailed build standards for production handoff. Perform vehicle and part-level reviews to detect aesthetic issues early and ensure rapid resolution. Requires 5+ years in automotive craftsmanship, deep GD&T knowledge, and 3+ years with Catia V5. Salary range $107,800 - $134,800 for California applicants. 10-30% travel required.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Design Engineering, Transportation Design, or a related technical discipline
- 5 years' experience with Craftsmanship, Perceived Quality, or Studio Engineering in automotive, or similar high quality product engineering discipline
- Deep knowledge of part and assembly tolerance stack analysis, GD&T, and statistical qualification of equipment, design for manufacturing (feasibility limitations of part design)
- A keen eye for aesthetics, and a deep understanding of the technical and manufacturing limitations required to achieve premium perceived quality
- 3+ years experience with Catia V5 or V6 (or similar CAD software)
- Must be willing to travel 10-30%
Desired Qualifications
- Proficiency in VRED and Class A surface modeling
- Working knowledge of domestic and global homologation, legal, and safety requirements
- Excellent communication and task-management skills; ability to influence cross-functional teams and build strong relationships in a highly confidential, fast-paced studio environment
