Job Summary
Design, architect, and implement complex, scalable software systems for the Customer Information Management (CIM) domain, establishing transactional context for user interactions. Partner with product managers, architects, and stakeholders to translate business needs into technical solutions while influencing system architecture decisions across teams. Ensure high standards of code quality, security, and reliability through design reviews, automated testing, and CI/CD practices, leading efforts to improve system observability and operational resilience. Mentor engineers across levels to raise overall engineering capability and drive technical direction. This role requires 7+ years of experience in large-scale distributed systems and is based in Chicago, IL, with a hybrid schedule of two days per week onsite at the Merchandise Mart office.
Required Qualifications
- 7+ years experience designing, building, and supporting large scale, distributed software systems in a modern engineering environment
- Experience partnering with product to frame tradeoffs and help shape the work for iterative value delivery
- Deep expertise in at least one major technical domain or platform, with the ability to quickly learn and influence adjacent domains
- Strong understanding of system architecture, data structures, algorithms, and distributed system design
- Proven ability to lead technical initiatives, influence without authority, and collaborate effectively across organizational boundaries
- Demonstrated ability to improve engineering practices across teams
- Willingness to travel to Chicago for onboarding and occasional team meetings
- Onsite onboarding will be required
