Job Summary
Sr. Staff ML Engineer role leading technical strategy for ML systems shaping Pinterest's content ecosystem. Focus on multi-objective optimization balancing relevance, quality, diversity, integrity, and monetization; build models and insights to identify missing content and improve ecosystem health; collaborate with product, data science, UX, trust & safety, ads, and infra to translate complex problems into technical roadmaps; mentor junior engineers and establish best practices in data quality, model governance, and reliability; leverage advanced techniques (e.g., game-theoretic approaches, reinforcement learning, mechanism design) to strengthen long-term ecosystem outcomes; located in the US with hybrid in-office collaboration (1–2 in-person visits every 6 months) and open to being situated nationwide for the role; base salary range $227,871–$469,147 USD plus equity.
Required Qualifications
- Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field or equivalent experience
- Strong fundamentals in machine learning and optimization
- Experience shaping technical strategy and delivering end-to-end impact
- Interest in marketplace dynamics and multi-sided incentives
- Familiarity with AI coding assistants (e.g., Cursor, Copilot, Codex)
- Comfort with data exploration, SQL, and engineering workflow acceleration
- Ability to mentor engineers and communicate across org boundaries
