Sr. Staff Functional Safety Engineer

Job Summary

Lead functional safety activities across the product development lifecycle by coordinating efforts in accordance with ISO 26262 and internal management systems. Create and maintain the safety plan, develop the safety case, and perform rigorous safety analyses including DFMEA, FMEA, FMEDA, and DFA. Support requirements traceability with engineering teams and conduct safety impact analyses for product errata. Participate in internal and external audits, manage competency and compliance with the Organizational FuSa Manager, and contribute to continuous process improvement. Communicate safety status, risks, and progress to senior management while collaborating cross-functionally to ensure requirements are correctly captured and verified.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline
  • Minimum of 8 years of hands-on experience in hardware/software engineering within semiconductor industry
  • Deep understanding of ISO 26262 or IEC 61508 frameworks
  • Extensive experience managing functional safety through the entire product lifecycle, including development, rigorous testing, auditing, and QA for embedded systems
  • Experience in functional safety analysis of hardware including DFMEA, FMEA, FMEDA and DFA
  • Experience in working with certification bodies to as part of product Functional Safety assessment
  • Experience with IP development Life Cycle e.g. HW IP design and verification processes, ASIC design methodologies, development tools and methods, program management practices
  • Skilled in utilizing industry-standard tools for requirements traceability, version control, and project management (e.g., Jama, Jira, GitHub)
  • A proactive problem-solver with a meticulous eye for detail and the ability to translate complex technical data into clear, actionable documentation
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills and the ability to communicate complex ideas succinctly and persuasively to peers, management
  • Able to work with a high level of independence and as part of a team
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001 Quality Management standard
  • Knowledge of automotive cybersecurity standard ISO/SAE 21434

Desired Qualifications

  • formal Safety Certification is highly desirable
