Job Summary
Design, develop, and test software applications for space systems while writing clean, maintainable code that adheres to best practices and coding standards. Architect and implement complex software systems using version control systems such as Git, manage code changes, and collaborate with team members to understand project requirements. Participate in code reviews to ensure code quality, troubleshoot and resolve software-related issues, and document software configurations, processes, and procedures. Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and make high-level design decisions that significantly impact program cost, schedule, and technical performance. Stay current with industry trends and advancements in software development and space technologies.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a related field (or equivalent work experience in lieu of degree or master's +6 yrs experience)
- 8+ years of related experience
- Deep expertise in multiple programming languages and software development principles
- Ability to design, architect, and implement complex software systems
- Experience with different software development methodologies such as Agile and Scrum/Kanban
- Strong leadership skills to lead a team of engineers
- Ability to make high-level design decisions that will have significant impacts on program cost, schedule, and technical performance
- U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State or U.S. Department of Commerce
Desired Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience managing requirements, feature definition, and test criteria for satellite ground software systems
- Strong understanding of spacecraft systems and classified enterprise ground systems, including hardware and software subsystems
- Knowledge of satellite ground software standards and message flows (CCSDS, OMS/UCI)
- Experience with Requirements Management and Model-Based Systems Engineering tools (DOORS, CAMEO EA, Rhapsody, Matlab, SysML)
- Proficiency in programming languages (Python, C++, C#) and scripting for automation
- Solid software development foundation with experience in modern programming languages and practices
- Knowledge of Agile methodologies and DevSecOps practices
- Familiarity with containerization, orchestration platforms, and cloud technologies
- Strong understanding of project management methodologies, including risk management and technical performance tracking
- Solid grasp of technical baseline and configuration management practices
