Job Summary
Sr. Software Engineer for GM's Vehicle Order Fulfillment team. Lead the design and delivery of enterprise-scale Java and React solutions, focusing on React UI and Java-based microservices (Quarkus) within a modern stack (Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift). Drive architectural decisions, ensure software craftsmanship through SOLID principles and TDD, promote code reuse, and oversee CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions) while mentoring junior engineers and collaborating with product managers, architects, and other engineers to deliver business value. This role emphasizes strategic technical leadership, modernization of manufacturing applications, and building scalable platforms that support plant operations and manufacturing execution systems. The position is categorized as hybrid with an expectation to report to a specific location at least 3 times a week; relocation benefits may be available; GM sponsors immigration restrictions as noted in the posting.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field
- 7+ years of software engineering experience with a heavy focus on Java
- 3+ years mentoring peers and driving technical initiatives
- Hands-on experience with React, Quarkus, Hibernate, REST APIs, microservices, and design patterns
- Proficiency with CI/CD tools (e.g., GitHub Actions), automated testing, and agile methodologies
- Deep understanding of software engineering principles and modern system design
- Strong debugging and optimization skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to translate features into user stories and align with product managers and architects
