Job Summary
Sr Software Engineer iSeries responsible for L2/L3 production support of IBM iSeries applications (RPG/CL/SQL on Db2 for i) at the Mattel Asia Manufacturing facility (China and Southeast Asia). Provides incident response, batch/job scheduling via CA Scheduler, HA/DR support, performance troubleshooting, and release/change activities; partners with application developers, infrastructure, business analysts, and stakeholders to minimize downtime and ensure data integrity. Drives application deployments, environment validation across Development/UAT/Production, on-call incident handling, documentation of runbooks and SOPs, and participates in release planning, post-release validation, and post-incident reviews. Required skills include IBM i operations, RPG/ILE, CL/CLLE, SQL/Db2 for i, CA Job Scheduler, HA/DR technologies, ITIL processes, and strong communication; 5+ years of iSeries experience and a degree in CS/IT or equivalent experience. Eager to work on-call hours and travel for training.
Required Qualifications
- Degree in computer science, Information Technology or related field (or equivalent experience)
- Min 5 years of experience in iSeries / application development or support area
- Strong hands-on experience with IBM i (iSeries/AS/400) operations
- Proficiency in RPG (RPGLE/ILE) and CL/CLLE; solid knowledge of SQL/Db2 for i
- Experience administering CA Job Scheduler on IBM i
- Familiarity with HA/DR technologies on IBM i (e.g., MIMIX, PowerHA, or similar)
- Understanding of ITIL processes (Incident, Problem, Change, Knowledge)
- Willingness to work on-call or non-regular hours (Asia time zone)
- Willingness to travel for intensive training during initial 6-12 months
