Job Summary
Design, implement, and scale production code for real-time distributed systems handling low-latency requests. Maintain legacy Python codebases while integrating APIs and managing CI/CD pipelines within AWS, Docker, and Kubernetes environments. Leverage strong Java expertise (with openness to C/C++, Scala, Ruby, Rust, or Go) to build next-generation research products that support a global network of over 239 million respondents. This role requires 10+ years of backend experience, a Computer Science degree, and the ability to solve complex analytical problems while mentoring team members. The position is remote across the country and offers a competitive salary for a Senior Software Engineer II.
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years of hands-on professional backend software development experience
- Strong experience with real-time distributed systems with low-latency responses and requests
- Degree in Computer Science or related field
- Strong programming skills in Java
- Comfortable maintaining Python code legacy
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and testing frameworks
- Experience with API integration
- Experience with AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, SQL
- Comfortable dealing with system complexity
- Great sense of ownership
- Outstanding problem-solving and analytical skills
- Enjoys working as part of a team and as a mentor
