Sr. Software Engineer, Cloud Network - Slack

Job Summary
Senior role responsible for designing, building, and operating Slack’s global cloud networking stack (ingress/egress load balancing, service networking, DNS, CDN, and traffic management) and for developing automation to detect, mitigate, and respond to large-scale network threats. Collaborate with AWS and other teams to scale Slack’s infrastructure, improve reliability and observability, and contribute to infrastructure-as-code and automation frameworks. Requires strong background in distributed systems, cloud-native apps, Linux, networking, and programming in Go/Ruby/Python/C/C++. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident and able to work in the US; visa sponsorship is not provided. The role includes on-call rotations and opportunities to optimize cloud-scale operations.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of software engineering experience
- BS, MS, or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent work experience)
- U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Residency (Green Card holder) — visa sponsorship not offered
- Strong knowledge of distributed systems, cloud-native applications, and microservices
- Experience with cloud providers (AWS or GCP)
- Programming experience in Go, Ruby, Python, or C/C++
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, CloudFormation)
- Linux-based deployment, operation, and debugging
- Networking knowledge (TCP/IP, DNS, DNSSEC)
- Ability to explain complex technical concepts to diverse audiences
- On-call rotation experience
- Bonus: AWS ecosystem expertise (NLB, VPC/IAM/S3/EC2)
- Interest in cost optimization and operating at cloud scale
