Sr Research Associate/ Scientist, Enzyme Development

Job Summary
Lead enzyme characterization and engineering campaigns in a fast-paced R&D setting. Own the execution of enzyme characterization and engineering efforts, including library construction, cloning, protein purification and characterization, and the development of high-throughput screens. Collaborate with Biology, Strain Engineering, and Fermentation teams to apply insights to improve production. Document and communicate results clearly, review relevant literature, and contribute to publications and patents. Maintain rigorous experimental design, data analysis, and troubleshooting to advance biocatalytic pathways and the efficiency of ZymoChem’s enzyme programs. Additionally, support the DBTL cycle for projects and assist with technical documentation and protocols.
Required Qualifications
- BS, MS, PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, (Bio)chemical Engineering, or related field
- 1-6+ years of relevant industrial experience
- Strong knowledge of biochemistry, enzyme mechanisms, and reaction dynamics
- Molecular biology skills for cloning (PCR, Gibson, Golden Gate)
- Experience in protein purification, biophysical characterization and enzyme kinetic characterization
- Experience developing new assays and/or troubleshooting existing ones
- Experience developing and executing screens & selections for collections of proteins (low-, med-, or high-throughput)
- Strong data analysis skills
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to move up to 25 lbs and follow safety protocols
- Legal authorization to work in the United States; visa sponsorship possible
