Job Summary
Manage and execute key projects from development to commercialization for sustainable packaging solutions, identifying growth opportunities to increase productivity and efficiency across manufacturing plants. Provide expertise on manufacturing equipment needs and address internal and external customer requirements in a manufacturing setting. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, suppliers, and equipment manufacturers to solve complex problems enhancing product performance cost-effectively. Originate new ideas supporting R&D product innovation and technology strategy while ensuring compliance with safety policies. This role requires a subject matter expert in plastic materials processing, plastics extrusion, and thermoforming. Full relocation package and signing bonus negotiable. Located at Franklin Park, IL, 100% onsite with up to 40% domestic travel.
Required Qualifications
- Expert in the area of plastics extrusion and thermoforming
- Solid understanding of the thermal, mechanical and rheological properties of thermoplastics
- B.S./M.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Plastics Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Polymer Science
- 7+ years of related experience with a strong technical background in plastics manufacturing, processing (i.e., extrusion, thermoforming, and tooling)
- Experience working in a manufacturing environment
- Proven results leading capital projects working with OEMs and suppliers
- Working knowledge in processing PET, PP, HIPS, and PE resins and formula additives
- Experience applying coatings and lamination to rigid sheet
- Results driven with a high level of personal initiative, energy, and ownership for success
- Inquisitive mind, actively staying aware of new and developing technologies inside and outside of the industry
- Self-starter with a positive can do attitude and able to work independently
- Experience leading projects working across different functions in the organization (e.g., commercial, manufacturing, supply management)
- Strong technical capability & problem-solving skills
- Effective communication skills both written and verbal
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, results orientated environment
- Highly organized and self-motivated with a hands-on work ethic
- Up to 40% travel, mostly domestic
- This position is located at Franklin Park, IL and 100% onsite
Desired Qualifications
- Experience in consumer-based food packaging is a plus
- Experience applying coatings and lamination to rigid sheet a plus
