Job Summary
As a Senior R&D Engineer at GAF, this role involves developing pilot capabilities, advancing technology innovations, and commercializing new processes related to asphalt oxidation and blending. The engineer will lead R&D projects from development through scale-up, collaborate across functions, design and perform experiments, identify gaps in existing processes, and mentor team members. Candidates must hold a Ph.D. or equivalent experience in Engineering or a related field along with a strong background in manufacturing processes and project management expertise. Experience in the residential building supplies industry, as well as familiarity with material handling equipment and process optimization methodologies, is preferred.
Required Qualifications
- Doctoral Degree (Ph.D.) in Engineering, Applied or Physical Science
- 3 years relevant work experience after Ph.D. or 5 years after Master's or 8 years after Bachelor's or 25 years related experience
- 2+ years hands-on experience in Manufacturing or Process R&D
- 2+ years experience in project management and leadership
- Strong process engineering background preferably in asphalt shingle manufacturing
Desired Qualifications
- Experience in the residential building supplies industry or a related industry
- Familiarity with sensors, instrumentation and controls used in the process industry
- Demonstrated experience in process optimization
- Strong oral and written communication and presentation skills
- Experience with data analysis, DOE and statistics
