Job Summary

Lead pediatric and postpartum patient care with rotating shifts, including weekends, holidays, and off-shifts. Manage daily goals and holistic plans of care while applying critical thinking to identify clinical, social, and safety needs. Participate in unit-based shared governance, quality improvement efforts, and evidence-based practice initiatives to enhance care standards. Provide patient and family education, mentor new staff, and collaborate with physicians and multidisciplinary teams to achieve desired outcomes. Maintain a safe, healing environment through open dialogue and cultural competency.

Required Qualifications

  • Casual RN position for Pediatrics
  • Cross-training postpartum
  • Rotating Shifts
  • 36 hours in a 6-week schedule
  • Variable shifts including weekend/off-shift/holiday requirement
  • One holiday per year
  • Minimum of 24 hours off-shifts or weekend or standby shifts in a quarter
  • Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Minimum 2 years' experience
  • Current licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in practicing state
  • Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state
  • CPR required based on AHA standards
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
  • Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal
  • Act 33 with renewal
  • Act 34 with renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal

Desired Qualifications

  • BSN preferred
  • UPMC approved nursing certification preferred
  • Annual completion of a professional contributions selected from department, hospital, or system goals, and approved by your Unit Director OR certification and 1 professional contribution selected from department, hospital, or system goals, and approved by your Unit Director as set forth through UPMC's My Nursing Career Ladder
  • Certification not required if Master's in nursing or DNP is held
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with executives, managers, physicians, non-physician providers, ancillary and support staff, other departments, and patients/families
  • Ability to work productively and effectively within a complex environment, handle multiple/changing priorities and specialized equipment
  • Exemplary clinical judgment with critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Critical thinking skills necessary to exercise and to lead others in application of the nursing process
  • Mobility and visual manual dexterity
  • Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting and positioning of patients
