Job Summary

Implement and develop Key North America's Process Safety Management (PSM) systems, procedures, and process improvements to ensure continuous compliance with OSHA PSM, EPA RMP, and industry guidance. Drive site PSM program improvements by executing PSM elements, conducting routine audits, and leading efforts to close regulatory gaps. Serve as the PSM subject matter expert by conducting training, performing Process Hazard Analysis, Layers of Protection Analysis, and statistical hazard analysis. Lead incident investigations to determine root causes and develop inherently safer technology solutions. Provide project input on process safety requirements for new designs and front-end engineering while coordinating with the operating plants and projects departments.

Required Qualifications

  • Leadership and compliance oversight with Process Safety Management (PSM) requirements
  • Process and procedure design to improve safety and health systems to control and minimize occupational and plant chemical risks
  • Coordination with other members of the HSSE Department to address PSM matters
  • Support for compliance with OSHA's Process Safety Management (PSM) rule (29 CFR Part 1910.119)
  • Support for compliance with the EPA's RMP rule (40 CFR Part 68)
  • Knowledge of industry guidance such as facility siting (API RP 752)
  • Application of engineering principles to the technical requirements of the regulations
  • Compliance oversight
  • Implementation and development of KNA's CSR management systems, procedures and process improvements
  • Execution of the PSM elements
  • PSM subject matter expertise
  • Conducting training regarding PSM fundamentals, procedures, and requirements
  • Identification and analysis of process safety risks that have potential for significant business impact
  • Routine auditing of all PSM elements to ensure compliance and identify improvements and best practices
  • Identification and securing of necessary resources needed
  • Leading the effort to close gaps
  • Development of innovative process solutions to improve the process safety of plants and processes
  • Knowledge in the process chemistry and operating philosophies for new and existing plants and technologies
  • Leading, facilitating or participating in site incident investigations to determine root causes of incidents
  • Coordination of incident investigation training
  • Direction of risk assessment techniques to include Process Hazard Analysis, Layers of Protection Analysis, Process Control and Safety Instrumented Systems
  • Review and recommendation of risk evaluation methods for new projects
  • Support for the development of front end design for PSM related projects
  • Providing project input concerning process safety requirements included in generally accepted engineering standards such as NFPA, ASME, API, IEC and CGA
  • Development of Inherently Safer Technology solutions
  • Conducting computer chemical dispersion modeling for PSM/RMP analysis
