Sr. Principal System Architect - OpenBMC Firmware

Job Summary
Senior-level OpenBMC firmware system architect responsible for defining technical direction for OpenBMC and BMC-related projects. Collaborates with customers, sales and product planning to establish architectures for cloud compute, firmware interfaces, and platform management. Roles include assessing technical requirements, determining competencies for quoting, developing system architectures, monitoring designs during development, and mentoring engineers. Key duties include advising on technology tradeoffs for BMC/BIOS features, aligning to product requirements, leveraging CPU/GPU/storage/FPGA/MCU knowledge, and communicating technical direction to development teams. Must have deep OpenBMC experience, Linux proficiency, familiarity with IPMI/Redfish/PLDM/SMBUS/i2c/i3c/SPI, and a strong background in firmware design for server management and BIOS architectures. Education and experience require a Bachelor's degree in related fields and 7+ years in firmware design, with demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional projects and teams.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in computer engineering, Computer Science, or Electrical Engineering
- 7+ years' experience in firmware design and engineering
- Expertise in OpenBMC architecture, codebase, repository structure and testing
- Familiarity with Linux and BIOS architecture
- Experience with IPMI, Redfish, MCTP, PLDM, SMBUS, i2c, i3c, SPI
- Fluency in C++, Python; working knowledge of JavaScript, HTML5, git, CI/CD and agile development process
- Experience leading BMC projects with multiple engineers
- Ability to translate customer requirements to internal requirements
- Strong communication skills in English
