Job Summary
Lead and develop a technical roadmap for selection and characterization of high temperature TPS materials, including phenolic ablative and carbon-based components for nozzle and re-entry applications. Design and develop subscale components, test specimens, and fixtures while establishing new manufacturing processes. Conduct failure investigations, perform material testing across multiple programs, and coordinate fabrication, assembly, and testing execution through various organizations. Present data and recommendations to internal and external customers, review production specifications, and write detailed instructions for material production. This role operates on a 9/80 schedule with every other Friday off, requiring a DoD Secret security clearance and 8+ years of experience in aerospace materials.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Material Science, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering, or other related field
- 8 years of professional experience
- Master's degree
- 6 years of professional experience
- PhD
- 4 years of professional experience
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance
- Experience with material selection, development, and characterization of high temperature materials
- Demonstrated knowledge of laboratory testing techniques
- Experience conducting experiments
- Previous lab experience
- Experience with completing experiments
- U.S. Citizenship

- Knowledge of nozzle designs and fabrication methods
- Knowledge of hypersonics TPS design and fabrication methods
- Experience with phenolic and carbon based product manufacturing
- Experience with aerospace materials and processing specifications
- Demonstrated modeling and drawing experience
- General understanding of classical lamination theory and anisotropic materials
- Knowledge of GD&T
- Advanced degree
- Knowledge of 2D and 3D carbon-carbon
