Job Summary
Senior Preconstruction Manager to lead the preconstruction phase of complex electrical construction projects. Owns client expectations, budget and design up to permit issuance and aligned budgets. Guides pre-award process, trains the pre-award team, maintains and grows client relations, analyzes bid documents, develops bid strategies, negotiates contracts, and coordinates design and subcontractor bid packages. Develops conceptual designs, manages multiple estimates, finalizes labor rates, determines pricing based on data and estimates, crafts strategic proposals, and follows up on proposals to identify negotiation opportunities. Requires advanced NEC/CEC knowledge, electrical product and installation expertise, strong sales/negotiation/presentation skills, leadership of a 3-5 person team, and ability to communicate scope and strategy to internal and external stakeholders. Proficiency with Bluebeam, Accubid, Excel, ERP systems, and related tools is preferred. Travel to worksites and the fast-paced environment should be expected. This role reports to the Preconstruction Director and is based in Sacramento, CA.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 10 years’ experience estimating and 5+ large scale multi-faceted projects thru design, or equivalent experience
- Advanced knowledge of NEC and CEC for residential, commercial and industrial construction
- Expert ability to create and review schematic designs that cover code requirements
- Advanced electrical product and product installation knowledge
- Strong Sales, negotiating, presentation and organization skills
- Strong leadership skills to lead a team of 3-5 from bid request to acquisition of project
- Excellent communicator/listener, experienced conflict manager, authentic, decisive, humble
- Advanced ability to start, build and maintain relationships with internal team members, clients and 3rd parties
- Graduate of a state approved apprenticeship and an electrical journeyman certification (strongly preferred)
- Electrical engineering degree, E.I.T., P.E. in electrical engineering and/or PMP or Construction Management Degree (also acceptable with 5+ years’ experience managing projects)
- Excellent ability to read and interpret plans, specifications and design criteria
- Advanced knowledge of Bluebeam, Accubid, Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams, Dynamics (ERP), Photometric requirements, Arch Flash and Short circuit coordination
- Willing to work in fast-paced environment and lead 3-5 team members from start to finish
