Job Summary
Lead a team of up to 30 welding and fabrication trades in producing large, complex A/C plant components for the U.S. Navy and Coast Guard. Drive productivity by building strong relationships, removing barriers, and enforcing safety procedures while coordinating daily production plans and prioritizing at-risk orders. Standardize work practices to improve quality, monitor non-conformances, and ensure units meet shipping goals with required documentation verified before inspection. Provide ongoing training for all employees, maintain labor and attendance records, and assess staffing needs to support continuous improvement initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to guide unionized manufacturing teams in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent communication, emotional intelligence, and interpersonal skills
- Strong relationship-building and coaching abilities
- Proven problem-solving abilities
- Associate degree required
- 12 years of relevant experience
- At least 4 years in a supervisory role
- Bachelor's degree preferred
- 8 years of relevant experience
- At least 4 years in a supervisory role
Desired Qualifications
- Experience in heavy manufacturing
- Welding knowledge; Navy welding standards NAVSEA 248/278
- Experience in a union environment
- Knowledge of continuous improvement manufacturing systems (6s, Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma)
- Knowledge of quality management systems ISO9001:2015 & ISO14001:2015
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint)
- Experienced with Lean implementation
- Experienced with supervising Union/Manufacturing employees (Up to 30 direct reports)
