Job Summary
Sr. Optical Systems Engineer to architect and develop optical systems for FTIR, NIR, and Raman spectroscopy instruments. Responsibilities include system-level design, optical modeling, tolerance analysis, cross-functional integration with mechanical, electrical, and software teams, prototyping, testing, validation, transfer to manufacturing, and mentoring junior engineers. Requires advanced optical knowledge, experience with Zemax/Code V, familiarity with photonic subsystems, and ability to work in regulated environments. Onsite at Madison, WI; relocation not provided.
Required Qualifications
- Advanced Degree in Optical Engineering, Physics or related discipline plus 3 years of experience, or Bachelor's Degree plus 5 years of experience
- Experience with optical design and simulation tools (e.g., Zemax)
- Experience designing and analyzing optical systems such as imaging systems, lasers, fiber optics, or photonic devices
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to optimize complex system performance
- Programming experience (Python, MATLAB, or similar) for data analysis, modeling, or automation
- Experience in regulated development environments (e.g., medical devices, aerospace, defense) is a plus
