Job Summary
Sr. Ocean Freight Specialist in the Americas responsible for managing and optimizing ocean transportation operations, including carrier selection, contract negotiations, shipment execution, and cost control. Key duties include overseeing daily ocean freight activities (booking, documentation, tracking, exception management), ensuring timely shipment execution from origin to destination, managing inbound/outbound ocean shipments across global trade lanes, developing carrier relationships, supporting freight contract negotiations, conducting quarterly business reviews with providers, identifying cost-saving opportunities, managing ocean freight spend, coordinating with procurement on RFPs, mitigating risks such as port congestion and delays, resolving disruptions and claims, collaborating across procurement, supply chain, warehousing, and customer service, providing reporting and insights on performance and cost trends, and developing dashboards and analytics to support data-driven decision making. A Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of ocean freight/logistics experience are required; visa support available for internal candidates or those with existing valid employment visas; relocation package offered if needed.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, or related field
- 5+ years of experience in ocean freight/logistics operations
- Strong knowledge of Incoterms (DAP, FCA, FOB, CIF, etc.)
- Experience with ocean carrier contracts and rate negotiations
- Familiarity with global shipping documentation and customs processes
- Proficiency in TMS, ERP systems, and Microsoft Office
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent negotiation and vendor management capabilities
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
- Detail-oriented with a focus on operational excellence
- Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required
- A relocation package can be offered if needed
- 7+ years of experience in ocean freight/logistics operations
- Experience managing North America (US/CAN) or global ocean logistics
- Knowledge of port operations and drayage coordination
- Experience with digital freight platforms and visibility tools
- Advanced excel skills
