Job Summary
Coordinate clinical competency and perform routine and special blood bank procedures while resolving day-to-day lab technical problems. Maintain regulatory compliance, monitor performance improvement and quality control activities, and ensure section adherence to accrediting agency standards. Assist the supervisor in maintaining a compliant section, manage patient privacy, and adapt communication styles for specific patient populations during evening shifts from 1500-2330.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in medical technology, medical laboratory science, clinical laboratory science, or chemical, physical or biological science
- 4 years experience (one year of which is in the appropriate clinical lab section) in appropriate clinical lab under a qualified Director
- Current license in the state of practice (if applicable)
- ASCP, AMT or AAB certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Technologist
- Must have computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of information
- Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally
- Must be proficient with Windows-style applications, various software packages specific to role and keyboard
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to and experience working in controlled environment, following safety measures to minimize exposure to chemicals, body fluids, blood borne pathogens, etc
- Advanced analytical skills to collect data, perform calculations, maintains system logs and operates laboratory computer equipment
- Judgmental skills in order to identify and solve problems as well as handle difficult situations
- Skills to manage stress in order to maintain a professional atmosphere and provide quality service
- Skills to work independently
- Must be able to lift 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally
- Must be able to lift 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently
- Must be able to lift greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly
- Must be able to move objects
- Must be able to walk or stand to a significant degree
- Must be able to sit most of the time
- Must be able to push and/or pull of arm or leg controls
- Must be able to work at a production rate pace
- Must be able to work in a patient care area
- Must be able to work in an area where patients enter
- Must be able to work directly with patients
- Must be able to work with specimens that could contain diseases
- Must be able to handle exposure to blood, body fluid and tissue
- Must be able to handle exposure to all communicable diseases
- Must be able to handle exposure to hazardous medications or hazardous waste
- Must reside in an area other than Colorado, California, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, Vermont, Washington, and Washington D.C.
