Job Summary

Design, develop, and optimize precision mechanical and optomechanical systems from concept through production for light scattering, field-flow fractionation, and chromatography instruments. Conduct detailed engineering analysis, perform mechanical and thermal simulations, and lead prototype builds and preproduction activities. Create detailed design layouts, review drawings and bills of material, and develop tooling and fixturing to support manufacturing requirements. Provide technical mentoring to junior engineers and drive design for manufacture practices while collaborating with NPI teams to ensure smooth transitions to volume manufacturing.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Minimum of 3 years industry experience in design and analysis of precision mechanical/electromechanical components/assemblies for production
  • Proficiency designing precision mechanical components and assemblies taking into consideration design factors such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials, interchangeability, ease of assembly, and cost
  • Proficiency using 3D parametric modeling software (preferably Solidworks or UGNX)
  • Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles, materials, solid and fluid mechanics, and heat transfer
  • Strong knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) per ASME Y14.5 2009 as well as industry drafting standards
  • Experience with DFM (Design for Manufacture) methodology
  • Experience processing ECO's, practicing organized revision control using a Product Data Management tool (PDM - SAP preferred)
  • Fluency in English - written and spoken
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within and outside of team, possessing strong interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with management, peers, suppliers and customers

Desired Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred
  • Proficiency conducting Finite Element Analysis (CFD and experience with ANSYS considered a plus)
  • Knowledge of injection molded plastics design desirable
