Job Summary

Design and develop precision mechanical and optomechanical systems from concept through production, creating detailed layouts, drawings, and bills of materials. Conduct engineering analyses for mechanical, fluid, thermal, and systems performance to verify design goals and support new instrument platforms. Lead prototype builds, preproduction activities, and tooling development while applying DFM methods and GD&T standards. Mentor junior engineers and drive best practices within a multidisciplinary R&D team focused on light scattering and chromatography instruments.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Minimum of 3 years industry experience in design and analysis of precision mechanical/electromechanical components/assemblies for production
  • Proficiency designing precision mechanical components and assemblies taking into consideration design factors such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials, interchangeability, ease of assembly, and cost
  • Proficiency using 3D parametric modeling software (preferably Solidworks or UGNX)
  • Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles, materials, solid and fluid mechanics, and heat transfer
  • Strong knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) per ASME Y14.5 2009 as well as industry drafting standards
  • Experience with DFM (Design for Manufacture) methodology
  • Experience processing ECO's, practicing organized revision control using a Product Data Management tool (PDM - SAP preferred)
  • Fluency in English - written and spoken
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within and outside of team, possessing strong interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with management, peers, suppliers and customers

  • FEA and simulation tools
  • Manufacturing process development
  • Vendor and supplier management
  • ISO 9001 and regulated product development environments
  • Proficiency conducting Finite Element Analysis (CFD and experience with ANSYS considered a plus)
