Job Summary
Senior Mechanical Engineer responsible for designing and developing mechanical systems for mobile robotic pipe-inspection devices, including mechanisms, bodies, bearings, motors, gears, seals, and controls. Will create 3D models and engineering drawings in SolidWorks, conduct analyses and simulations to optimize performance, collaborate with electrical/firmware teams, define product requirements, develop tests and procedures, and lead cross-functional teams in DFMEAs/PFMEAs. Will support manufacturing, QA, and product management, provide technical guidance to junior engineers, and ensure compliance with UL/ANSI/ISO/CSA standards while contributing to NPD and product lifecycle improvements.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering; Master's preferred
- Minimum 6+ years of experience in mechanical engineering, including robotics/automation/cameras
- Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks) for 3D modeling
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes including machining, molding, casting
- Knowledge of GD&T and ability to generate engineering documentation
- Extensive machine design experience including power transmission, sealing, and mechatronics packaging
- Experience working on interdisciplinary teams with electromechanical systems; understanding of electrical engineering and software development processes
- Familiarity with regulatory approval agency requirements (UL, ANSI, ISO, CSA)
- Working knowledge of project management principles and product lifecycle management
- Strong understanding of electromechanical mechanisms and controls in automation
- Experience with Finite Element Analysis and design for manufacturing/assembly
- Experience with stage-gate NPD and sustaining engineering
- Some controls programming and electronics skills preferred
- Demonstrated leadership and ability to work in cross-functional teams
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office; knowledge of ERP/PDM systems is a plus
