Job Summary
Senior Manager of Optical Development Engineering leads a team of optical development engineers to design, develop, and qualify advanced optical products and technologies from concept through mass production. Responsibilities include overseeing optical system architecture, simulation, prototyping, and performance optimization; ensuring compliance with industry standards and customer specifications; collaborating across mechanical, electrical, manufacturing, quality, and supply chain functions; managing project schedules, resources, risks, and budgets; coordinating with suppliers and manufacturing partners; supporting customer engagements, technical reviews, and executive presentations; and promoting innovation and technical excellence within the team. Requires a Master’s or PhD in Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related field with 8–10+ years in optical product development and at least 3 years in a managerial role. Candidates should have strong expertise in optical systems, fiber optics, photonics, high-speed interconnect technologies, experience with optical simulation tools and high-speed signal integrity analysis, hands-on experience with lasers, modulators, photodetectors, and transceivers, and proven ability to lead cross-functional programs. English communication is essential; Mandarin proficiency is a plus. Salary range $165,000–$250,000 plus benefits and potential bonuses/equity. Locations include US HQ in California (San Jose) and related facility in California (San Jose).
Required Qualifications
- Master’s or Ph.D. degree in Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related field
- 8–10+ years of experience in optical product development
- At least 3 years of managerial experience
- Strong expertise in optical system design, fiber optics, photonics, and high-speed interconnect technologies
- Familiarity with optical simulation tools and high-speed signal integrity analysis
- Hands-on experience with optical components such as lasers, modulators, photodetectors, and transceivers
- Demonstrated experience leading cross-functional teams and complex development programs
- Understanding of reliability testing and qualification processes and industry standards
- Strong project management and organizational skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication in English; Mandarin proficiency is a plus
