Job Summary
Underwrite holistic, complex individual life insurance applications by evaluating insurability, reviewing risk factors, and making final decisions within specified approval limits. Partner with financial associates, medical, and legal consultants to determine optimal outcomes while ensuring high-level fraud detection and consistent risk selection. Manage workflow, mentor less experienced coworkers, and conduct quality audits to foster team performance and continuous improvement. Engage in field training and build relationships with external partners to support Thrivent's purpose as a membership-owned financial services organization.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelors Degree preferred and/or 4 years of relevant experience in the insurance industry
- Minimum 4 years of holistic individual Life (or Health for Disability Income) Underwriting experience in the insurance industry with a minimum approval authority of <=$2,000,000 if life, $11,000 if DI
- Completion of or progress coursework towards ACS, FLMI and/or FALU designations
- Strong customer and team focus
- Strong PC skills
- Broad perspective understanding of Thrivent Financial and the financial services industry
- Ability to train and mentor others remotely and provide constructive feedback
Desired Qualifications
- Bilingual Spanish/English preferred
- Experience underwriting foreign nationals / non-U.S. persons preferred
