Job Summary
As a Sr. Lead AI Engineer at Klaviyo, you will lead the technical execution and design of scalable, low-latency backend systems and APIs for AI services, mentor engineers, and drive the technical roadmap for AI agents. You will need strong backend engineering skills with expertise in generative and agentic AI applications, large-scale distributed systems, and proficiency in Python. Your role will involve collaborating with cross-functional teams, setting engineering standards, measuring key system metrics, and transforming workflows to place AI at the center.
Required Qualifications
- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience with a strong focus on backend and distributed systems.
- Experience leading complex projects or areas end-to-end and acting as the go-to technical owner for key services.
- Experience building and shipping generative or agentic AI applications.
- Deep experience with large-scale distributed systems including architecting and operating reliable services.
- Proficient in Python and modern backend frameworks, with experience using big data tools such as Spark/Hadoop.
- Comfortable with AWS and Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, observability, and operational best practices.
- Experience designing human and automated evals for AI systems.
Desired Qualifications
- Prior experience training and deploying ML models (including RL or RLHF) into production systems that drove measurable business impact.
- Experience building shared AI/ML platforms or services used by multiple product teams.
- Background in marketing tech, ecommerce, or other domains where customer data, personalization, and experimentation are central.
