Job Summary
Senior Interconnection Engineer leading interconnection study execution and technical analysis for utility-scale renewable projects. Responsibilities include managing feasibility, system impact, and facilities studies; performing and peer-reviewing power flow simulations and stability analyses; navigating U.S. market procedures (PJM, MISO, ERCOT, CAISO, SPP, NYISO, ISO-NE); overseeing external consultants; identifying technically viable interconnection points; negotiating interconnection agreements; mentoring junior engineers; and applying regulatory standards (FERC, NERC). Qualifications include a Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering (ABET) with 5–10 years in transmission/interconnection, expertise in PSS/E/PSLF/TARA/PSCAD/PowerWorld, and a preference for a Power Systems-focused Master’s and a PE license. The role supports remote work and on-site options across Houston, Chicago, San Francisco, or remote in the U.S. (DOE-based compensation up to $170K plus 20% bonus).
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from ABET-accredited university
- Master’s degree with focus on Power Systems highly preferred
- 5–10 years of professional experience in transmission planning or interconnection within the U.S. energy sector
- Advanced hands-on experience with power system modeling tools such as PSS/E, PSLF, TARA, PSCAD, or PowerWorld
- Strong preference for candidates with experience at a top-tier engineering consultancy performing third-party power flow studies for developers
- Deep understanding of OATT, GIP, and utility-specific technical standards
- Professional licensure: PE license preferred
- Automation: Python or SQL for data analysis and study processing
- Regulatory knowledge and experience in power markets (PJM, MISO, ERCOT, CAISO, SPP, NYISO, ISO-NE)
- Strong communication skills to translate technical findings for non-technical stakeholders
- Mentorship capability and leadership in interconnection studies
