Job Summary
Coordinate radioactive waste management operations, including scheduling pickups, processing, packaging, and disposing of waste in accordance with department procedures. Inspect and prepare radioactive materials for shipment or disposal, while surveying laboratories for contamination and violations of the Radiation Safety Program. Calibrate survey equipment, check sealed sources for leakage, and maintain inventory of radioactive materials. Instruct radiation safety personnel on policies and procedures, and act as a first responder for the Radiation Safety Office. Participate in an on-call rotation and provide radiation safety assistance to hospitals as directed.
Required Qualifications
- Associate's Degree in Physical or Biological Science
- Five (5) years of relevant work experience and/or other specialized training
- Three (3) years related experience
- Acceptable driving record
- Ability to obtain a valid HAZMAT Commercial Driver's License within three (3) months of employment
- Must be able to demonstrate the ability to bend, reach, pull, push and lift up to 40 pounds without mechanical assistance
- Experience with radiation generating equipment (x-rays)
- General knowledge of relevant state and/or federal regulations
- Ability to obtain a valid HAZMAT Commercial Driver's License within three (3) months of employment
