Sr. GNC Engineer (Contract)

Job Summary

Design and implement Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC) systems for new spacecraft designs, including sensors, actuators, algorithms, and flight software. Support the full lifecycle from requirements definition through operations, driving design activities for spacecraft, payloads, and satellite buses with emphasis on Design for Cost/Manufacturability/Testing. Analyze and develop GNC systems to ensure maximum reuse of Airbus heritage products while optimizing constellation prospects. Participate in cross-functional planning and task execution for mission customization and future business captures. Perform necessary GNC system engineering activities to build, maintain, and evolve spacecraft products. Requires 8+ years of experience, proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink and STK, and ability to obtain government security clearance. Periodic travel under 20% to U.S. facilities or partner companies.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in STEM (Science, Technical, Engineering, Math) or related scientific areas
  • 8+ years' (w/ bachelor's degree) / 6+ years' (w/ Master's degree) experience in guidance, navigation and control system analysis, design and verification on spacecraft
  • 5+ years' experience in guidance, navigation and control system analysis, design and verification on spacecraft
  • Proficiency with MATLAB/Simulink and STK
  • Proficiency modeling, simulating, and analyzing the performance of spacecraft GNC sensors, actuators, dynamics and algorithms
  • Familiarity and experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (SysML/UML) and processes that include requirements, architectures, interfaces and trade studies
  • Familiarity with software development, verification, and validation
  • Experience with object-oriented programming (C, C++) and scripting languages (TCL, Python)
  • US Citizenship
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a government security clearance
  • Vision: able to see and read computer screen and other electronic equipment with screens, able to read documents
  • Hearing: able to hear to participate in conversations in person and via teleconference or phone and to hear sounds including safety warnings or alarms
  • Equipment Operation (personal computer, telephone, copies, fax machine, and related office equipment and using electronic identification card to enter building floors and internal doors): able to operate most office and personal electronic equipment
  • Carrying: able to carry documents, electronic equipment and/or supplies up to 40lbs/9kg
  • Lifting: able to lift documents, electronic equipment and/or supplies up to 40lbs/9kg
  • Sitting: able to sit for long periods of time in meetings, working on computer
  • Squatting / Kneeling: able to occasionally squat or kneel to retrieve or replace items shelved on bottom shelves
  • Standing: able to stand for long periods of time
  • Walking: able to walk through office and outside areas including uneven surfaces
  • Periodic travel (less than 20%) to Airbus U.S. facilities or partner companies
  • Occasional International travel to collaborate with European Airbus counterparts
