Sr Field Underwriter, Commercial Lines (P&C Small Commercial Insurance)

Job Summary
Underwrite new commercial lines business by evaluating risk exposures, reviewing applications, selecting quotes, and pricing according to company guidelines. Conduct field inspections of accounts with and without agents to gather competitive data and assess future agency potential. Maintain frequent visitation schedules with assigned agents in Tennessee to establish Nationwide as the preferred provider and extract new business from the agency force. Provide professional development insights to team members and conduct product orientation meetings with sales managers. Achieve territorial strategic objectives for profit, production, and service while managing a heavy workload. This role requires approximately 50-60% travel to agency partners and is based in or near Nashville.
Required Qualifications
- At least 3 years of multi-line commercial insurance underwriting experience (with authority)
- Production & Agency Management orientation
- Undergraduate degree
- Four to six years experience in commercial underwriting and/or portfolio management
- Advance knowledge on all aspects of commercial underwriting practices, procedures, and policies
- Thorough knowledge of agency operations and field agency support needs
- Strong proficiency in loss control and risk management techniques
- Strong sales skills to match the emphasis on production, including the ability to make presentations and meet with all agency personnel (owners and employees)
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Ability to travel regularly in the field, service centers, agency offices, and customer business locations
- Must have and maintain a safe driving record
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs

- Agency/brokerage experience
- Relevant insurance designations (CPCU, CIC, AU, etc.), or coursework towards them
