Sr Engineer

Job Summary
Lead the planning, coordination, and execution of engineering scopes for ironmaking, steelmaking, and continuous casting projects across North America. Serve as the technical focal point for equipment packages, developing design packages, specifications, calculations, and drawings while ensuring deliverables meet safety, quality, and schedule requirements. Conduct design reviews, evaluate supplier proposals, and coordinate activities with global engineering teams, suppliers, and customers throughout the project lifecycle from concept to commissioning. Analyze technical deviations, monitor project schedules and budgets, and support site investigations and factory inspections. Mentor junior engineers, contribute to continuous improvement of engineering standards, and travel domestically and internationally approximately 6 to 8 weeks per year.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
- Approximately five years of experience in mechanical engineering for steelmaking, ironmaking, continuous casting, heavy industrial equipment, or similar capital equipment industries
- Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, manufacturing processes, and engineered equipment systems
- Experience developing and reviewing engineering drawings, specifications, calculations, and bills of material
- Experience using 3D CAD systems and engineering drawing tools
- Ability to interpret customer specifications, technical standards, supplier documentation, and project requirements
- Knowledge of heavy industrial equipment such as steelmaking systems, continuous casting equipment, material handling systems, off-gas systems, water-cooled equipment, process auxiliaries, or similar plant equipment
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, including the ability to investigate technical issues and develop effective solutions
- Ability to take ownership of engineering work packages and independently drive resolution of technical issues
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate activities across multiple engineering disciplines, suppliers, customers, and international engineering teams
- Excellent communication, planning, and organizational skills
- Willingness to travel and support field activities as required
- Fluency in English
Desired Qualifications
- Solid Edge and AutoCAD experience
- ANSYS experience
- Experience working with global engineering organizations and external engineering partners
- Exposure to engineering analysis methods such as structural, thermal, or finite element analysis
- Leadership potential, including the ability to mentor others, influence technical decisions, and progressively assume broader technical coordination responsibilities
