Job Summary
Sr Engineer at Crane BSU leads engineering development across valve portfolios, coordinating cross-functional teams, developing and maintaining detailed project plans, managing NPD stages 1-7, driving VE and continuous improvement, ensuring compliance with PED/BS EN standards and safety directives, maintaining technical files and test documentation, supporting risk assessments and design reviews, and overseeing external resources and test activities while enabling efficient use of lab/test facilities. The role requires strong leadership, planning, risk management, problem-solving, and communication skills, with frequent collaboration across engineering, QA, procurement, and customers; occasional international travel.
Required Qualifications
- Essential Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline (BSc/BEng or MSc/MEng)
- Approximately 5–8 years’ experience in mechanical design / product development environment
- Demonstrable experience managing engineering projects and cross-functional teams
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes (casting, machining, assembly, testing)
- Experience working to engineering standards and regulatory requirements (e.g. PED)
- Proven experience in product validation and testing
- Desirable Chartered Engineer status (CEng) or working towards
- Experience in valves, HVAC, building services, or fluid systems
- Knowledge of industry standards (e.g. BS EN 12266, HTM guidance, ISO frameworks, IATF 16949)
- Experience with DFMEA, risk management and structured NPD processes
- Familiarity with Agile / Stage-Gate product development methodologies
- Experience managing test laboratories or development facilities
- International travel as needed
