Job Summary
Sr Embedded Software Engineer at Abbott responsible for designing, developing, and validating software for embedded systems with FDA Design Control compliance. Leads software design and implementation in languages such as C, C++, C#, and Python; develops and maintains design/interface specifications from requirements; participates in debugging, verification, and validation; supports hazard/risk analyses and root-cause analysis; collaborates on testing strategies and documentation under software lead guidance; requires strong communication skills and familiarity with medical-device software standards. Roles located in Alameda, CA and Milpitas, CA with on-site responsibilities.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 7 years of related experience or Master's Degree with 4+ years of related experience
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong familiarity with current development tools (IDEs, debuggers, unit test frameworks)
- Experience with middleware frameworks, protocol stacks, or system-level software (e.g., USB stack, BLE stack, TCP/IP, file systems)
- Experience building end-to-end systems (firmware → middleware → application)
- Experience testing software is a plus
- Knowledge of design controls and regulations for medical device development is a plus
- Knowledge of software lifecycle processes consistent with ISO, IEEE, or FDA-recognized standards is a plus
- Experience with software development life cycle processes is a plus
