Sr. Embedded Engineer

Job Summary

Support design and development of motor control electronics across all product stages, including writing specifications, performing simulations, capturing schematics, and guiding PCB layout. Create and maintain project documentation such as design requirements, BOMs, and test reports while overseeing prototype validation and agency certification. Collaborate with manufacturing, PCB, and application groups to optimize product designs for low cost and high quality, and work with the quality team to analyze failures and recommend process improvements. Participate in testing through review, witnessing, and software certification, and interface with OEM customers to clarify specifications.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or equivalent experience
  • 5 years of applicable experience in a product development environment
  • Experience in power electronics products; inverters, dc-dc converters and switching power supplies
  • Working knowledge in the design of conditioning and sensing circuitry for adjustable speed drives
  • Proficient in developing embedded code in C and assembly
  • Experience working with peripherals and communications protocols such as USB, SPI, I2C, UART, Modbus, CAN, Ethernet, TCP/IP, A/D converters and discrete I/O
  • Experience in configuring and developing code for a Real Time Operating System
  • Experience working with voltage levels, protection, and component selections up to 480Vac
  • Familiar with test equipment such as oscilloscopes, DVMs, signal generators, power supplies and other standard EE lab equipment
  • Possess strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills for the repair of digital circuits and analog circuits to component levels
  • Experience in best practices for creating robust and quality software programs
  • Must be self-motivated, organized, capable of working independently and as a team to solve engineering problems in a logical and efficient manner
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Must be able to climb ladders and move over, under and around large drives, wires, and motors
  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds unassisted and up to 100 pounds with assistance, waist high, up to 10 feet away
  • Must comply with the assigned location requirements including but not limited to safety glasses, hearing protection, appropriate gloves, clothing and shields for required tasks and closed toed or safety shoes as required by facility safety policies
  • Must be able to adjust, focus and the ability to differentiate colors

Desired Qualifications

  • Master of Science in Electronic Engineering
  • At least 7 years of applicable experience in a product development environment
  • Experienced in SCR, TRIAC, IGBT and MOSFET technology
  • Working knowledge of gate driver circuits for IGBTs, MOSFET and fly-back power converter topologies
  • Experience configuring and working with development environments, JTAG and debugging tools. Example: Code Composer Studio, Code Warrior
  • Experience with software version control
  • Experience using Matlab and Simulink software
  • Familiarity with troubleshooting electro-mechanical test systems
  • Ability to succeed in a fast-paced environment, supporting multiple people and managing multiple and diverse tasks/projects
