Job Summary
Oversee all routing and scheduling of buses, dispatch vehicles, and provide timely route and passenger information to drivers. Review route change requests, submit paperwork for approval, and maintain logs recording submission dates, change numbers, and recipients. Monitor sign-in and sign-out times, adjust route hours for productivity, and broadcast daily safety messages. Assign drivers to routes, ensure proper dry runs before service, and compile route information for school districts if required. Open or close the location, check messages, receive driver calls, track attendance, and update the dispatch log with vehicle status, replacements, and open routes. Record late buses, breakdowns, and accidents with resolution steps, collect pre-trip inspection reports, and coordinate with the shop manager for preventive maintenance and driver concerns.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent
- 5-7 years experience
- Basic knowledge of radio dispatch equipment
- Excellent communications skills
- Customer service skills
- Ability to work under time constraints and deadlines
- Problem solving and analytical abilities
- Previous terminal operations, dispatch, or driver experience
- Good computer skills
- Must be able to move about the office and between floors
- Must be able to utilize standard office equipment
- Must be able to access filing system/cabinets
- Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently in person or by telephone
- Must be able to sit for extended periods of time
- Must be able to drive a company-owned vehicle (implied by safety-sensitive status and vehicle license preference)
- Must be subject to drug and alcohol testing, including cannabis
