Job Summary
Senior Director of Software Engineering – Trust and Safety Engineering at JPMorganChase leads multiple technology areas within the Payments Technology Fraud Engineering team, guiding cross-functional engineers to advance fraud prevention capabilities and safeguard payments processing. Responsibilities include directing multiple technology and process implementations, managing senior stakeholders and cross-product collaborations, delivering high-throughput, low-latency production systems, guiding DevOps, CI/CD, and infrastructure as code, ensuring observability and reliability of cloud-native architectures, and leading application, data, and SRE disciplines while promoting a culture of diversity and inclusion.
Required Qualifications
- Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts
- 10+ years of applied software engineering experience
- 5+ years leading technologists to manage, anticipate, and solve complex technical items
- Strong background in Java-based backend systems (e.g., Spring Boot)
- Experience leading large or cross-functional teams of technologists (application, data, SRE)
- Deep understanding of distributed systems design and cloud-native architectures
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure)
- Proven track record delivering high throughput/low latency production systems
- Strong experience with DevOps practices, CI/CD, and infrastructure as code
- Familiarity with observability tools (monitoring, logging, tracing)
- Demonstrated ability influencing across matrixed organizations and delivering value at scale
- Experience leading complex projects supporting system design, testing, and operational stability
- Expertise in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, or related technical field
- Preferred: experience designing/operating event-driven architectures (Kafka, Pulsar)
- Preferred: data engineering (ETL/ELT pipelines, streaming data, data lakes/warehouses)
- Preferred: SRE principles (SLOs, error budgets)
- Preferred: containerization/orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes)
- Preferred: API design/management (gRPC, REST, GraphQL)
- Preferred: security/compliance in regulated environments
