Job Summary
The Sr Designer at Macmillan Children’s Publishing Group will oversee the design and management of book packaging, collaborating closely with the editorial team, creative director, and production department. Responsibilities include delivering original cover designs, managing the book production process, and ensuring design quality throughout. Candidates should have at least 4-6 years of bookmaking experience, preferably in children’s publishing, a degree in graphic design or related field, proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, and a strong portfolio. An understanding of the publishing industry and strong communication skills are essential.
Required Qualifications
- At least 4-6 years bookmaking experience in children’s publishing or equivalent
- Degree in graphic design or related fields or equivalent work experience
- Adobe Creative Suite proficiency
- Expert in color theory and design fundamentals
- Exceptional portfolio displaying strong typographic skills
- Knowledge of technical process of book production and printing
Desired Qualifications
- Strong sense of commercial & literary design
- Knowledge of the children’s book marketplace
- Experience working with freelancers, illustrators, photographers, and agents
- Ability to receive constructive feedback and proactively seek out compromise
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Motivated to learn and collaborate with team members
- Love of reading
