Job Summary
Sr. Design Engineer at SIG SAUER responsible for developing new firearms/accessories and leading design improvements. Provides technical leadership in innovative product development, generates and validates drawings with GD&T per ASME Y14.5, performs complex analyses (FEA, motion, CFD, heat transfer), reviews others’ analyses, and manages BOMs/PLM changes. Oversees test plans, coordinates Test Technician activity, ensures data validity and actionable conclusions, and drives DFM, cost targets, and supplier feedback. Leads continuous improvement of design practices, sustains 5S, and coordinates cross-functional collaboration with Manufacturing, Quality, Product Management, and vendors. Develops IP through patent searches and trade studies, with travel as needed. Requires BS in Mechanical Engineering, 7-10 years in an R&D environment, CAD/SolidWorks proficiency, and familiarity with ITAR/EAR/NATO standards and firearms safety.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering
- 7-10 years of prior engineering experience in an R&D environment
- Proficiency with CAD software to create parametric solid models and drawings; SolidWorks highly preferred
- Experience with FEA, kinematic/dynamic motion, CFD, and heat transfer analyses
- Ability to generate ASME Y14.5 compliant drawings with GD&T
- Familiarity with manufacturing methods including machining, molding, stamping/fine blanking, extrusion, forging, and casting; material selection and coatings
- Experience with PLM systems; Agile experience preferred
- Ability to convey ideas clearly in writing and speaking; strong documentation
- Experience in firearms or related products preferred; ITAR/ATF/EAR familiarity preferred
- Ability to travel infrequently
- Strong collaboration with Manufacturing, Quality, Product Management, and vendors
- IPR/IP-related activities including patent searches and trade studies
