Job Summary
Conduct advanced legal research, draft substantive pleadings, motions, briefs, and discovery documents, and independently handle higher exposure cases and complex litigation matters including Major Case and Complex Claim matters. Leverage trial experience to try cases to verdict or negotiate resolutions, while providing in-depth case analysis and recommendations to insured clients and claim partners. Collaborate with expert witnesses to develop case strategies and prepare compelling testimony, and deliver internal and external training to clients and partners. Mentor less experienced attorneys and legal support staff, and initiate special projects to support office goals. Travel as required to meet business needs and attend court events, depositions, and other appointments.
Required Qualifications
- Juris Doctorate or equivalent International legal degree; graduate of an accredited law school
- 7 years experience as a practicing attorney
- Active license in good standing to practice law in the state(s) in which representation is required
- Regularly handles hearings, trials, dispositive motion arguments, depositions, or other court proceedings and has the ability to transport to those meetings
- Valid driver's license required depending on the location
- 7+ years of insurance defense litigation experience as a practicing attorney
- Strong aptitude for trying cases to a jury; proven track record of litigating jury trials, with a history of successful courtroom outcomes
- Demonstrates strong technical knowledge in the practice area(s) and the ability to effectively communicate complex information on litigated matters to diverse audiences
- Advanced oral and written advocacy skills, with a demonstrated track record of summary judgment and/or appellate successs
- Possesses in-depth knowledge of the bench, bar, local jurisdictional practices, adversaries
- Excels in fostering collaborative relationships with colleagues, customers, and business partners to deliver exceptional customer service
- Demonstrates strong leadership through mentoring and influencing skills
- Exercises sound decision making and possesses advanced negotiation skills
- Effectively manages multiple priorities with a attention to detail, sense of urgency & responsiveness
- Possesses a flexible and agile mindset with a willingness to take on new challenges as needs evolve
- Travel as required to meet business needs
