Job Summary
Sr Counsel provides high-level legal guidance on complex regulatory issues for NiSource and its operating companies, managing regulatory matters before state and federal commissions, supervising outside counsel, negotiating contractual issues, reviewing and revising legal documents, and training clients on legal issues. The role requires JD, substantial regulatory experience, strong business acumen, leadership and negotiation skills, and ability to travel to multiple state and federal agencies.
Required Qualifications
- Juris Doctor Degree from an accredited law school
- Experience with independent case handling responsibility
- Exemplary personal and professional integrity and business ethics
- Ability to function autonomously
- Ability to balance the legal issues of a project with the goals of the business through strong, pragmatic business acumen
- Strong, logical legal mind with the ability to apply abstract concepts of law
- Ability to work efficiently under time pressures and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Adaptable to changing environments
- Strong leadership, managerial and interpersonal skills including ability to engender trust
- Strong counseling skills and able to work closely with clients
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Strong negotiating skills
- Knowledge of state and federal laws and interaction between them
- Licensure in Maryland and/or Virginia preferred, or ability to obtain state bar membership
