Job Summary
Senior Counsel - Claim at Travelers leads independent handling of a caseload of higher exposure and more complex insurance defense litigation, including Major Case and Complex Claim matters, from inception through trial and appeal. The role requires applying trial experience to litigation strategy, conducting advanced legal research, drafting substantive pleadings and discovery, attending court events and depositions, providing strategic recommendations to insured clients and claim partners, collaborating with experts, building internal and external client relationships, and mentoring junior attorneys and support staff. The position may involve travel as required and utilizes technology and case management systems to support outcomes. A Juris Doctorate with a license to practice law, and 7+ years of practicing attorney experience are expected, along with a proven track record in jury trials and strong negotiation and leadership abilities.
Required Qualifications
- Juris Doctorate or equivalent international legal degree
- Active license to practice law in the state(s) where representation is required
- 7+ years of insurance defense litigation experience
- Regularly handles hearings, trials, dispositive motion arguments, depositions, or other court proceedings
- Willingness and ability to travel to meet business needs
- Strong oral and written advocacy skills
- Ability to mentor other attorneys and support staff
