Job Summary
Senior Underwriting Consultant in Brokerage Excess with focus on underwriting individual complex risks for the Excess Casualty line, developing pricing, terms and conditions, and reinsurance placement; build and maintain broker relationships, mentor and lead underwriting staff, collaborate with actuarial/finance teams on rate viability and profitability, and drive production/loss ratio goals while supporting market viability forms and new classes of business. Requires coordinating with brokers, program managers, and reinsurers, presenting to committees, and occasional training/marketing activities; travel to broker offices and events as needed. Eligible candidates typically hold an undergraduate degree (preferred) with extensive experience in large/complex accounts and relevant professional designations; strong analytical, negotiation, and leadership capabilities are essential.
Required Qualifications
- Education: Undergraduate degree preferred (CPCU/CIC/AU/ARM/CPIW/CWIS/ASLI + related coursework encouraged)
- Eight years CL underwriting experience handling large or complex accounts, excess & surplus lines experience preferred
- Knowledge of complex CL underwriting policies, practices and procedures; insurance law; underwriting/marketing principles
- Ability to analyze highly complex insurance risks; determine acceptability; pricing; reinsurance considerations
- Ability to train and mentor underwriters and staff; lead projects and teams as needed
- Strong communication, negotiation, and broker-management skills
- Willingness to travel as required
