Job Summary
Monitor construction execution, contractor interfaces, and field safety while ensuring compliance with mechanical and civil packages. Interface with engineering teams during project scoping, design, and procurement phases to address constructability, evaluate bids, and manage pre-bid RFIs. Act as the key point of contact for contractors onsite, manage weekly status meetings, and oversee redline as-built drawings and PSSR completion. Issue daily progress reports to project managers and support commissioning activities. Some travel is required (10%).
Required Qualifications
- 10-15 years of experience in leading construction execution as a foreman, superintendent, or other leadership role in the chemical and Petrochemical industries
- Proven experience leading construction projects
- Must be results driven and a self-starter, anticipating and initiating solutions to problems
- Must be action-oriented and a team player
- Excellent analytical and technical skills in one or more areas including: mechanical equipment, electrical, instrumentation, piping, structural steel, concrete, proven industry mechanical experience
- Must be willing to work overtime and extended and flexible hours as needed with contractor schedules
- Must be able to relate well to all levels and areas of the business; ability to build appropriate rapport
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Must be able to ensure safe construction practices and techniques being executed by construction contractors and ensure the safe execution of construction packages
- Must be able to interface with engineering teams during all project phases to ensure mechanical and civil technical items are addressed and constructed appropriately
- Must be able to ensure compliance with mechanical/civil construction packages to engineering and construction standards
- Must be able to assist in the development of the field staffing plan during project scoping
- Must be able to attend design/constructability reviews, provide input to the constructability review efforts, help PM in developing construction strategy, and support review of the field construction bid packages during project detailed design
- Must be able to help in evaluating contractors and services, participate in pre–bid walks and assists in evaluating bids, assist in answering construction related pre-bid RFIs (request for information) from contractors, take part in the bid review for field construction packages, and enter requisitions or notify Project Manager for field material shorts during procurement phase
- Must be able to monitor any changes to the plan and escalate properly to Construction Manager and Project Manager as required for field project construction contractor execution
- Must be able to manage weekly project status and safety meetings
- Must be able to manage the field redline as built drawings and pass to PM, participate in PSSR, supervise completion of PSSR and related punch list items and turn over documentation
- Must be able to support commissioning and start up activities with the CSU team
- Must be able to issue daily progress reports to Construction Manager(s) and their manager(s)
- Some travel is required (10%)
Desired Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related field preferred but not required
- Experience using SAP is desired
