Job Summary
Abstract patient data and assign ICD-CM, CPT, and HCPCS codes to inpatient accounts in accordance with NCHS (CDC), AMA, and hospital guidelines. Communicate with care providers by creating queries to clarify and improve documentation, ensuring strict adherence to Federal and State regulations, CMS edits, and the AHIMA code of ethics. Utilize the EHR and 3M Computer Assisted Coding software to support reimbursement, DRG data, and research purposes. This role requires a professionally certified coder with knowledge of regulatory agencies and coding clinics.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree Health Information Management, Hospital Administration, Business or related field of study
- 1-2 years experience
- Associate's Degree Health Information Management, Hospital Administration, Business or related field of study
- 3-5 years experience in Pediatrics
- HS diploma or equivalent
- 5-7 years experience in Pediatrics
- Certified Professional Coder
- Certified Coding Specialist
- Certified Outpatient Coder
- Certified Compliance Professional
- Certified Professional Medical Auditor
- Certified Coding Associate
- Registered Health Information Technician
- Registered Health Information Administrator
- Must be willing to be vaccinated if found non-immune to measles, mumps, rubella (MMR) and chicken pox (varicella) and/or without evidence of tetanus, diphtheria, acellular pertussis (Tdap) vaccination since 2005
Desired Qualifications
- RHIT or RHIA as the qualifying certification
