Job Summary

Lead the strategic direction and operational excellence of the Casualty Specialized Claims team, guiding specialized Claims Managers through technical portfolios including Environmental, EPLI, and mass tort litigation. Set claim strategies, manage reserve accuracy, and oversee panel counsel selection while collaborating with legal, actuarial, and underwriting partners to mitigate legal system abuse and drive disciplined outcomes. Develop and refine claim-handling protocols, escalation frameworks, and best practices for complex specialty lines, presenting risk mitigations and emerging trends to executive leadership and reinsurers. Travel 25% to support stakeholder meetings, leadership engagements, and industry events. Candidates must reside within a 50-mile radius of a GRS claims office and report in-office twice weekly.

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of relevant experience
  • 5+ years of leadership experience
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Juris Doctor (JD), MBA, CPCU, or RPLU designations
  • 10 years of relevant and progressively more responsible work experience
  • at least 7 years of supervisory experience
  • At least 7 years claims handling within a technical specialty
  • advanced knowledge of claims handling concepts, practices, procedures and techniques
  • advanced knowledge of a technical specialty
  • Knowledge of law and insurance regulations in various jurisdictions
  • The ability to effectively interact with brokers and internal departments
  • Strong verbal and written communications and organizational skills
  • Strong negotiation, analytical and decision making skills
  • Candidates within a 50-mile radius of one of our GRS claims offices (Westborough, MA; Boston, MA; Hoffman Estates, IL; Indianapolis, IN; Lake Oswego, OR; Las Vegas, NV; Chandler, AZ; Plano, TX; Suwanee, GA; or Weatogue, CT)
  • in-office at least twice weekly

  • Experience developing, implementing, and refining claim-handling protocols, procedures, and best practices for environmental, mass tort, toxic tort, latent injury, and other complex claim portfolios

  • Bachelors' degree or equivalent training
