Job Summary
Sr. Chief Estimator leads the estimating department for construction projects, directing cost estimation, bid strategy, and competitive pricing. Responsibilities include managing and mentoring the estimating team, developing bid strategies, analyzing project specifications and scope, coordinating with subcontractors and suppliers for competitive bids, preparing detailed cost estimates and budgets, developing takeoffs and cash-flow projections, and delivering bid proposals and prequalification packages to clients. The role requires leadership, strong communication and negotiation skills, proficiency with estimating software, and a focus on profitability and strategic growth within the construction marketplace.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, quantity surveying, or related field
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in construction estimating
- At least 5 years in a leadership or management role overseeing estimating functions
- Proficiency in construction estimating software (e.g., Bluebeam, On-Screen Takeoff, WinEst) or equivalent
- Advanced knowledge of computerized estimating systems and databases
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills
- Ability to interpret technical documents, drawings, and specifications accurately
- Strategic thinking, business acumen, and financial literacy related to profitability and growth
