Job Summary
Senior Azure Virtual Desktop Engineer responsible for leading design, deployment, and optimization of Azure Virtual Desktop environments for USCG operations in the Alexandria, VA region. Key tasks include deploying and managing AVD infrastructure with Nerdio Manager for Enterprise, configuring host pools, session hosts, and FSLogix profiles; implementing autoscaling, image management, and cost optimization; integrating AVD with Entra ID, Intune, Conditional Access, and Defender; creating golden images for Windows multi-session environments; automating tasks with PowerShell, ARM/Bicep, Terraform, and Azure DevOps; monitoring performance with Azure Monitor and Log Analytics; ensuring security compliance and documenting architectures, SOPs, and runbooks; supporting migrations from Citrix/VMware Horizon/on-prem VDI; collaborating across infrastructure, security, networking, and application teams.
Required Qualifications
- BS degree in a technical field or equivalent
- 12+ years of relevant experience OR Masters with 10+ years of relevant experience
- Hands-on experience designing and implementing Azure Virtual Desktop solutions
- Strong experience with Nerdio Manager for Enterprise (NME) administration and automation
- Experience with Microsoft Azure infrastructure (Azure Networking, Entra ID, Intune, Azure AD, compute/storage/identity services)
- PowerShell scripting and infrastructure automation (ARM/Bicep, Terraform, Azure DevOps)
- Experience with Windows Server and Windows 10/11 multi-session environments
- Experience with monitoring/troubleshooting AVD performance issues
- Knowledge of security best practices for cloud-hosted VDI environments
- Preferred: DHS/USCG federal cloud modernization experience
- Experience with Intune, Defender for Endpoint, and hybrid identity/conditional access
- Strong documentation and cross-functional collaboration skills
- Experience with Citrix/VMware Horizon migrations to AVD
